Day 15 – Alton, Illinois

Yesterday it was Alton, Illinois whose claim to fame seems to be as the hometown of Robert Wadlow, world’s tallest man.  I preferred the Audubon Center.  As a robin, cardinal, and ruby-throated hummingbird.  No big deal to some but we don’t get any of these species where I live.  I’d give anything to see this place in winter when it is filled with migrating water fowl.

Love winding my way north on Mississippi. Thanks for taking us along.

We have no shortage of cardinals around here. Two males have been chasing each other through the pines. Dayton has a wonderful Audubon center. As part of our homeschooling curriculum, we participate in bird counts, etc.If you have some down time, visit us!

Alton, Illinois, is also the place where abolitionist Elijah Lovejoy was murdered by a pro-slavery mob.

Elijah Lovejoy

Supposedly, a young John Brown was inspired to become an abolitionist when he heard of Lovejoy’s death.
